Entrepreneurs: Stop Innovating, Start Minnovating - HarvardBusiness.org

If we want more entrepreneurs, stop worrying about jumpstarting innovation. Focus on "minnovation."

In reality, the vast majority of real-life entrepreneurs around the world aren't innovators. They're minnovators — mixing small parts of novelty and creativity with huge helpings of flexibility scrappiness and a generous portion of hard-driving execution.

Public officials from Colombia to New Zealand are hoping to create the next Silicon Valley by building modern "innovation centers" for entrepreneurs. But that tactic may unwittingly backfire: overemphasis on innovation as the pillar of entrepreneurship could actually stunt entrepreneurial growth

Emphasis added. Good arguments.

Google Chrome OS in Action. This is the future of how we will use Computers

Cold boot to Login Screen ~10ish secs.. I haven’t used a stop-watch – but you get the idea.

Imagine this: You are authenticated using your Google ID - Yes, you are reading it right.. So in effect anyone with a Google ID can use a Machine running Google Chrome OS. Security from ground-up means this:

Login_gc

Menu view suits to your web-apps..

Gc-menu

Once you login it saves your preferences on the machine.

I wonder whether the settings can be carried over to other machines - But I guess its just matter of trying it out..

Login-view

You can play with your own version of Google Chrome by downloading the VMDK.. http://gdgt.com/google/chrome-os/download/

If time permits this weekend I am keen to see if I can build a version myself. The above version is a bit unstable especially under VirtualBox..

Technology creates Opportunities - Technology revolution spurs Social & Economic change

Back when I was growing up in India, we had an amazing thing called a PCO (Public Call Office). This generated employment for number of people - I remember a guy down the road from my home who made a decent living out of it.

With the advent of Mobile Phones & cheap calls, the opportunity for PCO`calling sort-a died down a little - I mean calling from Mobile phones is cheaper than going to a PCO (Rs. 1/min vs Rs. 2/3mins). I thought these PCOs would be well.. history - but how wrong am I in thinking so.

These PCOs now have now evolved into something more interesting. They have become a social centres of enterprise & economic activity. Many turned their little stores into agents of change. These days many became conduits for Telephone/Mobile operators to sell their phone recharge & topup services & provide internet-computer centers (easy to get a printout & like..).

PCOs will start playing as enablers in selling services or paying bills. I think this is one thing which is ought to be reality soon. The opportunity lies in helping these guys get there - and believe me its no small opportunity. If anyone is interested in a similar opportunity do let me know - keen to share ideas.

Good News Mobile Devs on Mac OSX - For basic development of #J2ME/#JavaME apps you don't need Windows running

Java ME SDK 3.0 for Mac OS EA (Early Access) is available for download... This is something I was wishing for a long long time, and unsuccessfully tried various stupid tricks to make it work - but now I dont need to.. Yay!

You can download it from here - Java ME SDK 3.0 Early Access release on MacOS

This also means you can now use Netbeans 6.7.1++ (I am using 6.8 beta) + the Mobile Plugins installed for your development - straight out of the box.

Though I haven't done extensive testing, my apps did start working right out of the box. I haven't yet tried building the LWUIT version of FarmLinx, but I guess it will also work right out of the box.

Nokia to take over Palm?: Nokia rumored to be eyeing Palm buy yet again #Nokia #Palm

We've been around this rumor pretty much since Palm started looking competitive again, so take it for what you will -- but a bunch of fat cats down on Wall Street have been going ape today over renewed "chatter" that Nokia might be taking an interest in acquiring Palm.

If true, its good for all involved. Palms ingenuity in building mobile apps will make a remarkable addition to Maemo.

I always thought that Maemo & Palm's webOS are rather complementary from start - maybe it was in the long-term strategy on Palm's part.
